What would be estimated time for completion of this project, i.e. ready for school intake?
The Academy is expected to open on 1 September 2011
How does it affect pupils who will already be at Christ College?
All pupils on the Christ College roll as of 31 August 2011 will transfer to the Academy on 1 September 2011.
What is the alternative if the Academy does not happen?
The sponsors have been invited to promote the Catholic/Anglican Academy for Cheltenham. If the proposal is not agreed, Christ College will continue on its present site as a joint Catholic/Church of England Sports College.
What is going to happen to the remaining pupils at Kingsmead after 2009? I.e. Years 9 and 10?
It is planned that they continue on the Kingsmead site, wear the Kingsmead uniform and be taught by a core of familiar specialist teachers.
Why are you closing Christ College rather than moving all staff and pupils to the new site and indicating continuity? It doesn't give a good impression for the Church to open a wonderful new school, only to close it in 5 years. The reasons, even if they are purely financial need to be made much clearer. I would be very reluctant to support a new Academy, if that too will be closing 5 years after it opens.
We had to formally close St Benedict’s in order to open Christ College. A similar legal process has to be undertaken to secure the benefits offered by Academy status.
A lot of money and 'hope' was invested only recently in Christ College. What has happened to that bright new start/vision? What has changed so soon?
The development of Christ College has been a great success. The Academy offers the possibility of further development, including a sixth form.
What will happen to the staff should Christ College be replaced by the Academy?
All Christ Church College staff will be involved in the TUPE process.
Would the Academy have any reference to the precursor school or would it have a new name to mark the change?
The sponsors are currently considering the name for the Academy should the proposal be agreed.
